Questions, problems, or a product we got wrong? Email info@hormoneguard.com. Tell us your phone model, the app version (shown under Settings → Data & privacy → Open data & licenses), and — for a product — its barcode. Please do not send medical information; we cannot give medical advice.
HormoneGuard is an educational product-information tool. It does not diagnose conditions, predict outcomes, or replace medical advice.
Scanning
The camera does not start, or I said no to camera access. HormoneGuard needs the camera to read barcodes and to photograph ingredient panels. Turn it on in your phone's settings: on iPhone, Settings → HormoneGuard → Camera; on Android, Settings → Apps → HormoneGuard → Permissions → Camera. You can always type the barcode instead: tap Type the digits on the Home screen.
It says "We don’t know this barcode yet" or "No ingredient list yet". HormoneGuard looks products up in its own cache and in the open Open Beauty Facts and Open Food Facts databases. If none of them has the product, or the one that has it lists no ingredients, tap Scan the ingredients to photograph the ingredients panel and the app will read it. The first time, the app asks before it sends a photo. Check the text it reads against the pack — a photo can be misread.
The product's details are wrong. Product names, ingredient lists and photos come from Open Beauty Facts and Open Food Facts, which anyone can correct. Fixing the product there corrects it for everyone, including HormoneGuard users, over time. If our explanation of an ingredient looks wrong, email us with the barcode and the ingredient.
Results
What do Low Risk, Caution, Avoid and Unknown mean? They summarise what published research and regulatory opinions say about the product's ingredients, for each health topic you chose; the riskiest topic sets the overall result. Unknown means the app cannot give a confident answer: it could not recognise enough of the ingredient list, the list was read from a photo, the product has no ingredient list, or the research behind that topic is too thin. The deduction table and how each verdict is reached are on Settings → Scoring methodology; tap any ingredient on a result for its sources.
Why is an ingredient marked "Unknown"? The app's reference database does not cover it yet ("Not matched to a reference entry"). An ingredient it does not know is never treated as safe. Some are classified by an AI model instead; those are marked Model-assisted.
Why does a result say "Unknown for" one of my topics? For some health topics — PCOS, for example — there is much less published research to draw on. When nothing is flagged for such a topic, the app says Unknown rather than presenting a clean result as reassurance, and because Unknown outranks Low Risk, it can set the overall result too.
Can I change my health topics? Yes: Settings → Your concerns. They are stored only on your phone.
Free scans and Premium
How many free scans do I get? A few every day — the number is shown in the app — and they reset at midnight. When an ad is available you can watch one for an extra scan, a limited number of times a day. HormoneGuard Premium removes the daily limit and all ads.
I subscribed on another phone, or reinstalled the app. Open Settings → Restore purchase, signed in to the same App Store or Google Play account you subscribed with.
How do I cancel? Subscriptions are billed by Apple or Google, so you cancel them there:
- iPhone: Settings app → your name → Subscriptions → HormoneGuard.
- Android: Google Play → your profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → HormoneGuard.
Deleting the app or your HormoneGuard account does not cancel a subscription. Refunds are handled by Apple or Google.
Privacy and your data
Where is my data? Your scan history, saved products, search history and health topics are stored only on your phone. See the Privacy Policy for everything that leaves it.
How do I turn off analytics? Settings → Data & privacy → Share usage analytics. Nothing further is sent once it is off.
How do I delete my data? Settings → Reset local data clears everything on your phone and keeps your account (and any subscription linked to it). Settings → Delete account and data also deletes your anonymous account (or, if our sign-in provider will not allow that for an old session, signs out of it). Details: Delete your account and data.
